THE men and women from the west crossed the bridge to Ballyroe Heights Hotel on Friday night to celebrate a successful year for Castlegregory GAA club.
While the club never reached the heady days of 2010 when they won the All-Ireland Junior title, the 200 or so faithful attending still had much to recognise in the achievements of the minors and seniors as Chairman Pat O’Shea explained.

“We had a very good year. Our Coiste na nÓg did extremely well, our minors won a county league title and our seniors, for the first time, won the junior section of the Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé. While last year we were relegated to Division 5, we bounced back again this year as champions,” said Pat.
So the future of the club is looking good?
“Overall we had a good year and based on that foundation we can drive on. Emigration has been a huge factor, but the club is coming on. We’re a small club out in Castlegregory with nothing to our back only the Atlantic Ocean, but we have a very good squad coming, we’re very hopeful for the future. You have to be positive and we certainly are,” said Pat.
With that attitude it won’t be long before we see a club with a great tradition and history winning even more silverware. Scroll down for photos…
