THERE was a packed house in CBS The Green on Wednesday night for the opening of their latest production, John Millington Synge’s ‘The Playboy of the Western World’.
There were fantastic performances all around by the Transition Years in the pop-up theatre in the school foyer and the stage design looked incredible thanks to staff members, Mark Ryall, along with teachers Cathal Halton and D.J. Flaherty and students.
The production is directed by Ellen McGillicuddy and Anne Moore, but students are integral parts of the whole production, down to the stage construction, the marketing, props and costume, media, make-up, and event management.

Actors taking part include Cormac Lynch, Liam Magee, Leon Daly, Oisin O’Connor, Joseph Linehan, Mark Stephenson, Niall Fitzmaurice, Jordan Kissane, Stephen Nix, Micheal Dolan and Ciaran Kelliher.
Music also accompanies the show with the talents of sixth year student Cathal McLoughlin, Darragh Lynch, Cian Lynch, Tadhg Reen, Maurice O’Connell, Danny Greaney and Tadhg Scanlon.
The tale itself is set in Michael James Flaherty’s public house in County Mayo during the early 1900s. It tells the story of Christy Mahon, a young man running away from his farm, claiming he killed his father.
The locals he encounters are more interested in vicariously enjoying his story than in condemning the immorality of his murderous deed. Christy’s tale captures the romantic attention of the bar-maid Pegeen Mike, the daughter of Flaherty.
Tickets are still available for Thursday and Friday night’s performances at the school reception or contact 0667145824 or 0860077068 to book your seats. €10 Adults and €5 for students. Scroll down for photos…
