FRIDAY saw great achievements in the sporting and academic spheres acknowledged at Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí.

Abbeydorney won the minor hurling championship over a week ago now and the school has some students who played a part in the victory.

Also Briain Mac Amhlaoibh, who completed his Leaving Cert this year at the school, returned with the Neilus Flynn Cup won by Lixnaw in the Kerry Senior Hurling Championship.

Past pupil Darragh Ó Seanacháin was the captain and teacher Fearghus Mac Muiris is manager of the Lixnaw hurling team.

Principal of Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí, Ruairí Ó Cinnéide, praised their achievements.

“Today we are acknowledging the fantastic win by Lixnaw in winning the Senior county final and the also the Abbeydorney Minor team in winning the County title. We are particularly proud of the role of members of the community of Gaelcholaiste Chiarrai’s had in achieving this. We’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Fearghus (Bainisteoir), Briain and Darragh from the Lixnaw team, and Adam, Breandán, Tomás, Seán and Jedd from the Abbeydorney team on their success. They set very high standards for themselves and it’s great to see this work rewarded.”

It’s been quite a few weeks for Briain Mac Amhlaoibh as he achieved the maximum 625 points in his Leaving Cert and will now take up an engineering course in UL.

Róisín Ní Churraí from Camp also achieved 625 points in the Leaving and will now study medicine in UCC after also achieving seven H1’s in the HPATH.

“Róisín is exceptional, she also got 11 A grades in her Junior Cert. Both Briain and Róisín came from primary schools taught through English and their work ethic was amazing,” said Róisín’s German teacher Deirdre Ní Chochlain.
