RESIDENTS of Shanakill came together for a Mass on Thursday evening to celebrate the community spirit in the area.
For the recently revived annual Mass, residents have been preparing for it by planting flowers and shrubs and a general tidy up of the area.
Mass was said by Fr Pat Lynch and the choir was made up residents of the estate who came together especially for the occasion.
“The mass had stopped for a few years and it was brought back,” said one of the Mass organisers, Junior Locke.
“This year we’ve seen the strongest involvement since the return of the Mass, as you can see there is a lot of families, it’s a great way to celebrate the community,” said Junior.
The event is held in conjunction with the Shanakill Family Resource Centre and community employment workers who were involved in the work preparing for the Mass.
