THE benefits of being active as we get older were emphasised at the second annual MTU Kerry campus Active Ageing event held earlier today.
Organised by MTU Health & Leisure Department and students in conjunction with Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership, Healthy Ireland and Healthy Kerry, over 150 people attended the event and took part in functional movement activities like yoga, dance, bowls dancing and much more.
“The attendees today are from all over the Kerry region, receiving information and trying out new activities,” said Eimear Foley, a lecturer in the Health and Leisure Department at MTU.

“It’s all about promoting being active as you get older. We have students from the Health and Leisure courses putting them through their paces, which is also part of their classwork. We also had a talk from Dr Barry Moynihan from UHK who spoke about having a positive attitude towards a healthy lifestyle,” added Eimear.
Community groups and organisations such as Baile Mhuire, Baile Sean Chairde, Kerry’s Call, the HSE, the Centre For Smarter Ageing and more were also in attendance to give more information about what’s happening in their local are to help them keep active. Scroll down for photos…
