THE people at Tralee Local Employment Services (LES) held a coffee morning on Thursday to help out an orphanage in Africa and ended up raising €1,120.

Christmas jumpers abounded at their office at North Circular Road and people from local agencies and employers associated with Tralee LES showed up to make a contribution, enjoy some cakes and coffees and make a real difference to the lives of children. There was loads of spot prizes and Santa called in to say hello too.

The Tir na nOg Orphanage in Boma nGombe, Tanzania was set up by Ashgrove woman, Louise Quill, in 2006 and caters for over 30 children in one of the poorest countries in the world.

Jimmy Murphy who works at Tralee LES and his wife Maureen, who is involved in fundraising for the orphanage, spent some time there earlier this year and were delighted with the response.

“I’d like to thank the management and staff of Tralee LES for holding this event, especially Marie Dennehy who did much of the legwork for this,”said Maureen, who is heavily involved in the upkeep and fundraising for the orphanage.

Louise Quill was also there and said she plans to go back over to the orphanage again in March.

Tralee LES Co-ordinator, Elaine McKenna, thanked everyone for attending and contributing to the cause.

“Thank you from us all at the LES to each and every one of you for supporting such a worthy cause in The Tir Na Nog Orphanage.  We know that the money we have raised today will make a difference. Many thanks to all our generous employers for all the amazing spot prizes and congratulations to all the prize winners,” she said.
