A CELEBRATION 60 years in the making took place in Ballygarry last night as Firies GAA club held their first social in many a year.
The club was founded in 1962 and all things past, present and future were celebrated on the night with over 250 of the Firies faithful gathering to enjoy a fantastic night of food, fun and reminiscing.
They have a lot to shout about too after a fantastic year for the growing club with two tables required to accommodate the vast array of silverware won by the men’s and ladies teams.

The senior men’s team won the Junior Club Championship beating Cordal back in November and also got promoted to Division 2 in the County League. There’s around 50 senior men’s footballers which merits having a B team, showing the strength of the club as they progress onwards and upwards.
Having won at Junior B level in 2021, the ladies team won the Junior A Club Championship Final and went on to represent the county in Munster, while Emma Costello represented her county with distinction in Kerry’s run to the All-Ireland final and was nominated for an All-Star.
Firies clubman Jeremiah O’Sullivan was also the Kerry Girls Under 14 manager who won the All-Ireland final and he brought the trophy to rest with the many others on the top table.
In all, there were 72 men’s and ladies players receiving medals for a range of league and championship wins throughout 2022.
Surviving members of the 1962 team were also present and they received a special award on a night which shows the future is bright for everyone involved with Firies GAA. Scroll down for photos…
