THE first year pupils of Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí got in to the festive spirit by celebrating Saint Nicolas’ feast-day on Wednesday.
To mark the day, the pupil held a number of activated at Collis Sands House where the pupils are based.
“Unfortunately we currently do not have home economics facilities in the school. That will all change in 2020, when we move into our new school building,” said teacher Fiona Uí Mhuiris.
“We decided to avail of the kitchen in Collis Sands, where our first years are based, and make some Christmas cookies, have a Christmas quiz, teach them Stille Nacht and send them home with their shoes full of sweets, their head full of knowledge and hearts full of memories!”

Saint Nicolas lived in the fourth century in the area now known as Turkey. He was known for his secret giftgiving and as such he was a precursor to Santa Claus.
On December 6 Saint Nicolas‘s day is celebrated. Traditionally on the evening beforehand German children clean their shoes and place them outside the door. During the night Saint Nicolas arrives and rewards their efforts with sweets and treats, which he places in the shoes. Scroll down for photos…
