PHOTOS: Graduation Day Arrives For Coláiste Gleann Lí Students

THE 6th year students of Coláiste Gleann Lí bade farewell to their fellow students and teachers at a heartfelt and emotional Graduation Ceremony held at the school on Friday.

The ceremony marked the completion of five years post-primary schooling for the class of 2022 and was opened with the musical talents of Ruairí Halloran (Chairperson of the Students’ Council) playing ‘The Nights’ by Avicii while his classmate Eoghan O’ Connell welcomed all present.

The 6th year Year Head, Mr. O’ Sullivan set the tone and led the graduation with a reflection about friendships, values and the students’ personal growth.

A procession of meaningful symbols which were featured to represent the cohorts time in Coláiste Gleann Lí was worded by Sabrina Isufi.

The symbols included a smart phone presented by Michelle Alsinani which symbolised the collective dependence on technology enhanced learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A friendship balloon was presented by Karolina Szlapska to highlight the long-lasting friendships the students forged with one another during their five years together.

A globe carried by El Fuhad Falade symbolised the diverse nature of each and every student and how they were cherished and embraced in the school.

Cormac Murphy presented a clock which illustrated the brilliant times shared by the students while at school.

Darragh Mannion carried a school journal and pencil case to represent the hard work and dedication of all class groups as they studied for their Leaving Certificate examinations.

Finally, Josh Quirke presented a football to symbolise the students’ love of sport and the shared memories created on the school’s astro turf pitch.

Memorable singing was provided by Andrea Foley who san ‘I’ll Remember You’ by Hannah Montana. Lauryn Smyth and Zak Soukapova- Dowds sang a duet entitled ‘It’s My Time’ followed by warm words from Ms. Shirley Cleary who supported the students in a positive and nurturing way during their time in the school.

This was followed by a poignant student reflection read by Katelyn O’Connell Griffin entitled ‘Don’t Ever’.

At this juncture, representative on ISSU and Comhairle na NÓg member Leah Williams Morgan gave a heartfelt and inspiring speech on behalf of the class of 2022.

In her speech she praised the teachers and SNAs who support the entire student population on a daily basis.

The joyful ceremony closed with a speech from the Principal Mr. Liam McGill who thanked the students and their parents/guardians for their commitment and diligence over many years.

He also praised the highly motivated and dedicated staff of the school for their ongoing, unwavering commitment to the student population.

There ceremony ended with a presentation of Graduation Certificates and gifts to the collective singing of ‘I Lived’ by One Republic.  Scroll down for photos…
