THE Rockies sure know how to throw a good party!
Around 430 people gathered in Ballygarry House Hotel on Friday afternoon for the Austin Stacks GAA Corporate Lunch as part of the club’s centenary celebrations.
It was an afternoon of superb entertainment with more GAA legends present than you could shake a stick at, as the guests heard some hilarious anecdotes from the biggest names in the game.
After a champagne reception, guests made their way to their tables where Austin Stacks Chairman, Liam Lynch, welcomed all.
He said he was sure that the event would be as big a success as their 2015 lunch, which was a memorable occasion…although some may have difficulty in recalling it!
Speaking about the centenary, he said thanks to hard work of the forefathers of the club, Austin Stacks stands “in its strongest position in its rich and storied history.”
“Tralee and its Rock Street environs remains our bedrock and our place at the heart of that community remains key to our ideals and our aims,” said Liam.
RTE’s Darragh Moloney was introduced as the host for the afternoon and he introduced Mikey Sheehy and Ger Power to discuss Mikey’s famous 1978 goal. They were swiftly joined by Dublin legends Robbie Kelleher and Paddy Cullen who brought the house down (see previous story here).
Later, after a great dinner, Kieran Donaghy, Darragh Ó Sé, Ogie Moran and Dinny Allen told some great tales, while Páidí Ó Sé infamous exchange with Dinny in 1975’s Munster final was also recalled.
The fun continued long after the formalities ended on a day (and night) that all agreed was a worthy successor to 2015’s event. Well done to Austin Stacks on a fantastically organised occasion. Scroll down for photos…
