IT’S the time of the year when parents around the country can get very emotional as a milestone event in their child’s life comes around.
Schools around Tralee are welcoming new Junior Infant classes and we’re going to travel around town all week to see how they settle in.
Though there were some tears (mainly from parents) young pupils began their school lives with little fuss on Monday and Tuesday at Holy Family, Caherleaheen NS and Scoil Nuachabháil.

Holy Family NS welcomed 24 new pupils in the national school on Monday morning. “They were all excited,” said principal Ed O’Brien. “We didn’t have too many anxious mothers and fathers. The children settled very quickly, we’re delighted with them and hope they have a fruitful and industrious year,” said Mr O’Brien.
In Adrienne Heaslip’s Junior Infant class in Caherleaheen, there were 18 new arrivals at the school. “It’s very exciting and thankfully we had very few tears and big excited smiles,” said Ms Heaslip.
Not too far away at Scoil Nuachabháil in Gortatlea, 24 pupils started their first day of school.
“They were like old pros coming in here,” said principal Mick Bolger. “They settled in really well as if they have been doing it for years. There were a few tears all right but they were well gone for about 9:30pm,” said the Prinicipal. Scroll down for photos…
