THERE was great excitement in Holy Family N.S. on Friday as children and staff took part in a “Dress in a Mess” fundraising initiative.
Odd shoes and socks, back to front jumpers and inside out shirts replaced the normal school uniform as children showcased their creative and imaginative skills.
Prizes were awarded to the best dressed and a lucrative homework pass was awarded to the class who made the best effort.
The purpose of this day was to raise funds for the schools upcoming Culture Week — a celebration of the diversity that exists within the school.
“We are fortunate to have over 20 nationalities represented in our school community and this multi-cultural week forms an intrinsic part of our pursuit for our 6th green flag for Global Citizenship,” said Principal Ed O ‘Brien.
Culture week will take place on the 6th 7th and 8th of June and both staff and students are looking forward to a jam-packed week.
Among the events planned are a Zumba showcase, a céilí, drumming workshops, traditional music and storytelling sessions, guest speakers, food tasting and an International hat display. The week will culminate with a showcase in the hall where children will display their art and project work on their respective countries.
“There is a great buzz around the school as the children are busy preparing,” added Ed, “and we are looking forward to a wonderful week of celebration which we hope will become an annual event.”
Culture week marks a busy year for the school with work almost completed on a new Aistear room and library.
Mr. O’Brien added that prospective parents are more than welcome to visit the school at any time to view the facilities and discuss future enrolment. Scroll down for photos…
