HOLY Family NS was even more colourful than usual on Thursday with an array of outfits sported by the young pupils.

The reason was World Book Day and the school went all out with a number of activities.

“We celebrate the importance of reading for pleasure and this was certainly the case in the school this week,” said teacher Linda Hanafin, co-ordinator of the event. “Many of their favourite book characters were brought to life through dressing up and role-play, from Matilda to the three little pigs, Pippi Longstocking to Hermione Granger, Little Red Riding Hood to Mary Poppins and many more.”

Mrs Hanafin praised the efforts, support and teamwork and team spirit of all involved this week, pupils, staff and our fantastic parents for supporting their literary drive.

The annual book fair also took place this week where children were given the opportunity to browse through and purchase books which appealed to them and in doing so re-stock their new Central Library in the school.

Other activities included trips to their local library, a workshop with local author Alan Nolan, favourites book spine competition and display, favourite book character selfies, viewing inspiring, interactive films online by some amazing authors and illustrators and concluding with the World Book Day quiz over the intercom.
