THOUSANDS of students around Kerry are currently taking part in Maths Week 2018 and great fun is being had in Holy Family NS in Tralee this week.

The senior infant pupils were gathered in the assembly on Monday when we called and were taking part in fun maths games with teachers.

“We take part every year at the school, where we treat maths as fun,” said teacher Linda Hanafin who helped organise the week.

“All classes are involved and the SET (Special Education Team) coordinate the activities. We transformed our PE area into the ‘Hall Of Numbers’ and we set the scene for pupils in the past week with signs and a jar where pupils are invited to guess the number of sweets within. All pupils have an opportunity to take part in activities for all mathematical abilities,” she said.

Both Linda and Principal Ed O’Brien said they were very impressed by the enthusisam that exists for maths among the pupils and staff at the school, where activities were presented in  a fun and relaxed environment. The school will also take part in the VEX Robotics programme this year.

Open to all, Maths Week 2018 sees a wide variety of fun and engaging maths themed events taking place all over the island of Ireland, north and south, featuring mathematicians and entertainers.

Schools and clubs were encouraged to hold their own events to support budding mathematicians. Scroll down for photos…
