Mike McCarthy reports on a big night in The Huddle Bar for darts followers…

ALL roads led to the Huddle Bar in Tralee on Friday night for the final of the Specsavers-sponsored Tralee and District League semi finals and finals Section B and C.

In the B section, the home side took on the Munster Bar in a local derby.  This was a tense affair with The Munster Bar taking a 3-1 lead in the race to four, but the home team dug deep and Alan O’Sullivan held his nerve to put the home side into the final.

This was a great game played in the best of spirit.

In the other semi, The Railway Bar Lixnaw took on the Huddle 2. The Railway are one of the larger clubs in north Kerry and this stood to them as they raced in to an early 3-1 lead with James Conway starring in what was the game of the night in his win against Peter Carroll.

It was down to Frank O’Shea to win and put the boys from Lixnaw into the final.

This is the first year The Huddle 2 played together and they can be very proud of their efforts and some great results.

So it was on to the final and The Huddle and Lixnaw renewed their friendly rivalry. This was tight and after three singles and two doubles matches it was 3-2.

It was down to Mike Mullins who held his nerve to give The Huddle victory and spark huge celebrations.

The Stretford End 2 team which won the C Section final.

In the C Section, Causeway overcame a very game Slieve Mish team with the father son team of Charles and Liam Sullivan performing so well, but Stretford End with Tom Frizelle and Eric McHale playing well it was always gonna be an uphill task.

The final was Abbeydorney and Stretford End Causeway taking this one 4-1 which does not do Abbeydorney justice. Possibly the format of double start did not suit this up and coming Abbeydorney side who represented Twomeys Tavern so well.

These guys will be a team to watch in the North Kerry league and up and coming tournaments.

This was Causeway’s night though and they were richly deserving of their outstanding victory.

A very special mention to our sponsors Specsavers Tralee and to Paul Lowth and his staff in the Huddle Bar for the setup in the bar and also for their continuing support of darts.

All eyes will be back on The Huddle venue next week for the A section semi-final and final. This kicks at 7.30pm and sees Stretford End 1 take on Kingdom Bar Listowel and Parkers Kilflynn taking on McElligotts Ardfert. Very tasty ties and big crowds are expected.
