VOLUNTEERS came out in force yesterday for the 2017 County Clean-Up Day.

Now in its sixth year, the County Clean-Up, which took  place with the support of Kerry County Council and KWD Recycling, has proven to be a wonderful community event in which people clean up their respective areas and make their localities spick and span.

Hundreds of bags of rubbish were collected on the highways and byways of Kerry including in Tralee where people were out on the Tralee bypass roads and out in Curraheen where the community were out bright and early.

Tralee Tidy Towns collected 50 bags of rubbish on the road from University Hospital Kerry all the way out to Earl of Desmond. Afterwards, McDonalds provided free refreshments for the volunteers which included many members of the  Redeemed Christian Church of God.

During lunchtime in town, members of the Kerry Islamic Outreach Society were out collecting rubbish in the Square.

The aim of the annual event is to ensure that visiting tourists and locals alike can see the true beauty of the Kerry countryside without unsightly litter strewn on the sides of the roads. Scroll down  for photos…
