THE sun shone for the Rockies on what was a wonderful day for the 10k/5K Paul Lucey Memorial Run/Walk ‘Run for the Rock’ on Monday morning from Connolly Park.
Seasoned runners joined families at the Austin Stacks base and around 500 finally took off at 11am on the routes.
Paul Lucey, who passed away in December, was a hugely popular figure in the Stacks club and coached numerous teams to success. His son Niall was delighted with the turnout.
“We’re overwhelmed by the turnout and the support, it’s a lovely way to memorialise dad. The day is perfect for it and we’re just thrilled,” said Niall.
The Mens 10k was won by Derek Griffin (32 mins), with Catherine Kiely (38 mins) first in the Women’s 10k. The Mens 5K winner was ‘French’ Tim Francony and the Ladies 5K winner was Marie McKenna.
Everyone who completed the race received a ‘Run for the Rock’ medal. There was a barbecue afterwards with ice-cream and free coffees on a truly great day for the Lucey family and the Rock club. Scroll down for photos and a video of the start of the race…
