THERE was great craic on Saturday as about 30 teams took part in the Tralee Inter-firm soccer tournament held in venues around town.
The competition was divided into over 35s and under 35s with the majority of the team playing in the ‘oldies’ tournament.
Kerry stars Barry John Keane and Marc Ó Sé were among those taking part in the games, where the Low Field played host to the semi-finals and finals, recalling the days when hundreds of people would watch the matches on summer nights from the 1960s right up to the late 90s.

In fact, it was Barry John who accepted the Under 35s trophy from one of the organisers, Cllr Pa Daly, after ‘The Boys From The Avenue’ beat The Garda team in the final.
The senior final had to be decided by a sudden-death penalty shoot-out, where a team from Kerry County Council beat ‘Temple Bar Davys’ a team made up of players from Kildare and Tralee (sadly, the brilliantly-named ‘Borussia MunchenBadBacks’ didn’t make it).
Breda Dyland of the Kerry Cancer Support Group, one of the beneficiaries from funds raised, presented the cup to Padraig Moynihan. Cllr Pa Daly was delighted with how the day went.
“It was of a high standard. We had teams from companies, estates, the gardai, county council and others so it was great to get them together and make some money for charity. Given the success of today, we would hope to expand it next year over a week either running into the Rose of Tralee or at the beginning of September,” said Pa.
The organisers wished to thank the referees who gave their time on the day, including John Hegarty, Adrian O’Shea, Kevin O’Regan and Jim O’Connor. Scroll down for photos from the day…
