THE first part of an epic fundraising effort for cancer research began on Thursday night with a table quiz in the Mall Tavern.
In September, Ballymac woman, Joanne Allman, will take part in a 1,000k cycle along the Wild Atlantic Way as part of an effort to raise €3,000 for Cancer Research.
Joanne will be taking on the CROSS Atlantic 1,000 Challenge with a host of rugby legends from past and present. She is aware what’s ahead of her but is relishing the challenge.
“If I raise €3,000 I will be delighted, the aim is the raise as much as I possibly can,” said Joanne.
“I’ve been cycling two years and I’ve done the Ring of Kerry twice, but this going to be the Ring of Kerry everyday for six days, so I don’t think there is any way to prepare my backside for it to be honest!” she laughed.
“It’s all about raising as much as I possibly can for it. Cancer is very close to my heart, a cousin of mine is being waked tonight, a young woman with a young family, it’s very sad, so it’s all for a good cause,” she said.
Joanne has no further fundraisers planned as yet, but there will be more before the big cycle on September 5.
