THERE were smiling faces in the sunshine on Wednesday morning as hundreds of students around Tralee received their Junior Cert results.
Over in Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí there was great excitement as the envelopes were handed out at around 10am. Principal of the school, Ruairí Ó Cinnéide, was very pleased for the students.
“We are delighted with the results achieved by this year’s Junior Cycle students. Our Junior Cycle results are continually showing that, in all subject areas, our students are achieving grades which are well above national average grades.
“This is of course down to the hard work of our students and the support of their teachers and families.

This year 93% of the cohort achieved an A/B grade in Higher level Irish. We are immensely proud of this as 40% of the students came to Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí from English-medium primary schools,” he said.
Over in Coláiste Gleann Lí there were similar scenes of joy where 28 students received results. Just five years ago the school welcomed only eight first years, but such is the amazing growth there, they welcomed 48 new students this year.
Principal Richard Lawlor was delighted for the boys and girls.
“They all did very well. We’re very proud of the students here and especially of the teachers and SNAs who provided support to them over the past three years. It’s a community effort,” said Mr Lawlor who also thanked the parents who provided emotional support for the students at home.
There were many high-achieving students in Presentation and CBS The Green also, while Mercy Mounthawk was a hive of activity and we met two students who received 8As and two with 9As when we called up for the celebrations. Scroll down for photos…
