A KERRY and Austin Stacks legend was honoured on Saturday night at the Kerry Ladies Gaelic Football Annual Awards.

Marina Barry received a very special Lifetime Commitment to Kerry LGFA award for her significant contribution to Kerry Ladies Football.

Marina has won 10 All Ireland senior medals and five All Stars playing with the great Kerry team of the 80’s and early 90’s.

With Stacks she has every honour that there is to be won at club level in Kerry. She also lined out this year with her daughter Caoimhe in the Kerry Intermediate final winning another medal and scoring four points in the process.

Speaking to TraleeToday.ie at the start of the night, Marina said she was honoured by the Lifetime Commitment to Kerry LGFA award.

“It’s a great honour, I suppose I was surprised and shocked when I heard. I’ve been playing since the late 70s and now it’s 2017, so that’s a lot of mileage on the road. I’m lucky that I’ve been able to continue my career to be able to play with young and old and playing with my daughter Caoimhe was very special. I’m very honoured because this sort of award doesn’t come around very often.”

Also receiving a special award was Finuge/St Senan’s referee Seamus Mulvihill who had a fantastic year with the whistle refereeing the National Football League final back in May and the All-Ireland final between Mayo and Dublin in September.

Of course there were many other awards on a night where Andrew Morrissey of Radio Kerry proved an entertaining Master of Ceremonies.

There were a number of awards given out and every club that won county leagues and championships received their medals. There was also player of the match awards given to the outstanding player in the Junior A, Intermediate and Senior Championship finals.

The County senior ladies team were presented with their Munster Championship medals while the Kerry U14 team were presented with their Munster and All Ireland runners-up medals. The Kerry LGFA Club of the Year award went to Corca Dhuibhne.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious four course meal and Andrew Morrissey swapped MC for DJ duties later to finish a great night for Kerry Ladies Football. Scroll down for photos…
