SIAMSA Tíre hosted a production of the Oscar Wilde classic ‘The Importance Of Being Earnest’ last week where students from Mercy Mounthawk excelled in their dramatic roles.

While attendances were limited to around 150 for Thursday and Friday, people on the waiting list for Saturday’s performance were allowed attend thanks to the lifting of COVID restrictions.

English teacher Frank Houlihan, who is well known locally in drama circles, was the director of the play and speaking before Saturday’s performance he was effusive in his praise for all involved in the production.

“They really performed wonderfully. We have been rehearsing four times a week since October and we partly chose the play because of its social distancing possibilities on stage. We have a great team of assistant directors, costume designers, set designers and more who deserve great credit,” he said.

There was a cast of just 10 with Judith Waugh as Lady Bracknell, Adam Dineen as Algernon, Conor Breen as Jack, Emmett Christie as Lane, Roisín Reidy as Gwendolen, Molly Sheehy as Ms Primm, Amy Naughton as Cecily, Eoin Griffin as Dr Chasuble, Rachel Feely as Merriman and Cliodhna O’Connor McCarthy as Footman.
