MINISTER for Education Norma Foley received a warm welcome at Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn on Friday morning, as she was updated on the progress of the new school extension.
The Kerry Fianna Fáil TD was welcomed by Principal Cáit Uí Chonchúir with pupils waving out the classroom windows at the Minister as she made her way to the new building.
Pupils from the school performed music, while she also was presented with a ‘Nead’ (bird box) from fifth class pupils who are making them as part of their Junior Entrepreneur Programme project.

Principal Uí Chonchúir said she looked forward welcoming Minister Foley back to the school for the official opening of the new extension in September.
“The extension will consist of five classrooms and four resource rooms. It elevates the school from an eight teacher school originally to a 16 teacher school now,” said the Principal.
“There will be two streams [classes] of each year group going forward. It’s a testament to the interest in education through Irish. We’re delighted with the new extension as we’re a small bit cramped at the moment,” she added.
The building is due to be completed by mid-summer and will be fully ready to welcome pupils by the new school year in September.
“We’ve had great co-operation between pupils, staff, the Board of Management, Parents Council, Edward Dowling and Parkway Construction, Liam Waldron and MRG Consultants on the project,” added Cáit.
There are tentative plans that when the extension is finished, third class pupils currently being taught in a prefab onsite, will move inside the main school building and a naíonra (pre-school) will be established in the prefab. Scroll down for photos…
