TWO teams from Mercy Mounthawk received Merit awards in the John Hooper Maths Poster Competition in Dublin last Thursday.
This is a very prestigious competition is organised between the Central Statistics Office and the Project Maths Development team and aims to develop an interest in Maths and statistics in particular.
While 10 schools received awards only two received double awards. Last year Mounthawk received three merit awards.

Aisling Higgins, Sinéad Deasy and Aoife O’Carroll’s project was ‘The 2 Degree Tipping Point’ and was all about public awareness of global warming.
Ciara McCarthy, Clodagh Harrington and Rachel Moloney’s project was entitled ‘Grades and Hobbies’. They took a look at student past-times and investigated whether there was a link to the grades they received at school.
They found that music and football were the hobbies most associated with high grades.
The girls travelled to Dublin last week for the awards.
