LISTOWEL Race Company officially opened their newly constructed €1.3 million Food Hall, Bar and Viewing Area at a reception in the new facility on Wednesday night.

Hosted by Chairman of Listowel Race Company, David Fitzmaurice on behalf of the Board of Directors, special guests on the night included the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed T.D., and Brian Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Horse Racing Ireland (HRI).

Mc’ed by Owen MacMahon, over 300 guests, including well known racing industry figures, sponsors and media, enjoyed sumptuous Canapes created using locally sourced produce, a drinks reception and musical entertainment.

Built by Monami Construction Ltd, the new building has been part-financed by Horse Racing Ireland through its Racecourse Capital Development Scheme, which provided funding of over €600,000. Construction began in January and was completed ahead of schedule in mid-July.

Many thousands of racegoers will have the opportunity to enjoy the new facility over the forthcoming 158th Listowel Harvest Racing Festival Meeting from 11th to 17th of September. For more information on Listowel Races contact 068 21144 / 21172 or visit www.listowelraces.ie

The new building replaces The Old Snack Bar, and incorporates a modern Food Hall, called The Old Weir Food Hall on the ground floor, and The Riverside Bar on the upper level with an adjacent viewing area that has magnificent views of the Parade Ring. There are also ladies and gents toilets on the ground level.

The 158th harvest racing festival will take place at Listowel Race course over 7 days from Sunday 11th to Saturday 17th of September. Racing highlights include the €175,000 Guinness Kerry National Handicap Steeplechase (Grade A) Chase on Wednesday 14th; the €55,000 Guinness Handicap Hurdle on Thursday 15th and the Listowel Races Supporters Club Sponsored Race ‘The Slán Abhaile” on Saturday 17th September.

Fashionable racers of all ages can also look forward to three days of Best Dressed competitions, including dedicated categories for gentlemen, ladies, younger racers, vintage lovers, couples and new this year – the most stylish Selfie! There will also be a complimentary double decker bus taking ladies to the race course from the centre of Listowel town on the McElligotts Honda Ladies Day on Friday 16th of September.

    super facilities in this course we will be trying out. 6 of us going down to races on the Thursday 15 Friday 16 lady’s day. A lot of money spent on fashion for Friday. Any hope of a few passes for the day. Do your best thanks.
