SOME day for a cycle.

Over 100 cyclists hit the road on Saturday morning for a spin out west which has raised thousands of euro for the Kerry branch of the Samaritans.

Conditions were very hot — especially on the climbs of Conor Pass and Gleann na nGealt — as the participants set off from the John Mitchels GAA Complex in Ballyseedy on a choice of two routes. The 75km route took cyclists to Camp, Annascaul, Inch, Castlemaine and back to base. The 125km  route took in the Conor Pass, Dingle, Inch, Castlemaine and back to Tralee.

As you can imagine, the cyclists saw the West Kerry peninsula at its very best and if anyone was feeling the effects of the heat, there will be a full backup of medical services available across both routes.

Approximately €8000 has been raised to date thanks to the generous donations, entry fees from cyclists and generous suppliers that contributed to the food stops and the barbecue which was enjoyed by all back at base. Scroll down for photos supplied by Tralee Manor West Bicycle Club…
