SOME of the works painted by secondary school students as part of a project have been erected on the walls on laneways off Denny Street, greatly enhancing the area.

The Tralee Town Centre Mural Project, which aimed to further enhance the appearance of the centre of the county town, was undertaken by students from Mercy Mounthawk, CBS The Green and Presentation Secondary.

The project originates from the Denny Street Conservation Project and the enhancements of Denny Street and the Mall last year and is a collaboration between Kerry County Council and Tidy Tralee Together.

The works went on display in the Ashe Memorial Hall back in May and now about nine of the 20 works have been hung on Denny Lane and across the road on the laneway by the Imperial Hotel.

The paintings have been protected from the elements and potential vandalism by perspex glass. There are plans to erect other works by the students in due course. Scroll down for photos…

Wonderful. I especially love seeing the

As the gateway town to the Dingle peninsula, I would love to see murals showing our people, history, landscape and culture: The Gallarus Oratory, Dingle Bay, Mount Brandon, Great Blasket islands past, Kilmalkedar, Conor pass, The Famine Cottages of Fahan, Tralee Golf Club, Fenit Island, Blennerville Windmill, Banna Beach Skellig Michael with Star wars on it or Dingle with the Quiet Man illustrated!

It would be wonderful for tourists to look around the town at murals to see that Tralee is the gateway to all of it.
