IT was a bad day for a great cause when a large group of cyclists got on the road yesterday afternoon to highlight the message of mental health and suicide awareness.
The Cycle Against Suicide Tralee Spinoff event was organised to coincide with the Rose of Tralee festival and the riders got a great welcome when they made their way through town before the main Rose Parade on Saturday evening.
Earlier that day, they had gathered at Aspen Grove on the Castlemaine Road before setting off on a 50km route via Fenit, Banna and Ballyheigue. The weather turned for the worse as they left Tralee and they had blustery conditions as they made their way round the route.
By the time they made their way up through town that evening the weather was getting bad again but they got a rousing reception for their efforts.
The SpinOff is a locally organised cycle that takes place once each month after the main 14-day Cycle Against Suicide around the island of Ireland.
The events are locally organised, owned by the community and championed by Cycle Against Suicide ‘local leaders’.
Entertainment, refreshments and a mental well-being presentation were all part of the SpinOff. Scroll down for photos from the event…
Well done everyone. Hope for anyone reaching out in Kerry.
