A PERFECT morning for a run.
The sun shone in Tralee on Sunday morning as 200 runners took to the road for the Tralee Half Marathon. It was the final race of five in the series this year with the full marathon, 100k, 50k and 10k having already taken place.
Runners came from all over Munster and with many staying the night it provided a tourism boost for the town. Derek Griffin won the men’s race while Benvon Lyons was the first woman home.
Some local runners decided a half marathon wasn’t enough. Ciara O’Callaghan, Martin Moore, Kevin Roche and Jack Moriarty decided to do a full marathon in recognition that the Dublin marathon wasn’t going ahead, as it normally would this weekend.
It was a great day said Race Director, Jim McNiece. “We’ve been blessed with the weather, no rain and the course was great.”
“We had great support from St Brendans in Ardfert for the stewarding, Tralee First Responders in the Spa and the Festival of Kerry stewards in town. Ciara O’Keeffe is doing rub-downs for runners at the finish, the Gardaí have been great and of course Marcus Howlett has been amazing and we couldn’t do it without him,” said Jim.
Jim is looking forward to next year with the five races in the series going ahead again. Scroll down for photos…
