PUPILS at Presentation Primary School once again got an opportunity to display their artistic talent when they recorded their own song this week, with proceeds going to a great cause.

It was all thanks to the Creative Schools initiative, as teacher Helena Hennessy explained. “When we returned to school after the lockdown, we were naturally concerned about the wellbeing of all our students.”

“We looked at engaging our senior pupils in a project through which they could express their thoughts and feelings about the pandemic and how it affected them.

“We decided that a creative outlet was the best platform for this and when we spoke to the children about it they chose to compose a song. The pupils from Third to Sixth Class wrote lyrics and melodies which evolved into a song entitled, ‘Fight Another Day’.”

“In essence, it is our students’ interpretation of an unprecedented and historical period in their lives and has a great message about finding strength and resilience and moving forward after lockdown,” said Helena.

The pupils wanted their song to raise funds for a local charity organisation for mental health, as their way of giving something back to their community and they chose Kerry Adolescent Counselling Service (KACS), a local organisation that does immense work for young people, providing a professional counselling service, specialising in working with adolescents.

They engaged the expertise of Pat Donegan of Pat Donegan Music Productions to record an audio and video version and every class is featured in the music video.

“The students were extremely excited to show off their singing and dancing skills and we are equally excited and very proud of their hard work and creativity in composing and performing their song,” said Helena.

The donations to charity will be made by the parents who will receive both an audio and video recording of the song. Scroll down for photos…
