THE sun shone down on Presentation Secondary School on Friday, which augmented the colour shown by students who came out for a special event in the school grounds.
The school held Stand Up Week to show their support and solidarity with the LGBTQ community.
“It was weeklong event of lessons, talks and discussions with students,” said teacher and co-ordinator of the week, Bernie O’Connor.

“It was all to ensure we are inclusive to the LGBTQ community in the school. It raised awareness of some of the issues faced by students on a daily basis and making sure Presentation is an inclusive community.”
It all culminated on Friday with each year, from 1st to 6th, wearing a different colour of the LGBTQ flag and posing for a photo outside. Scroll down for photos…

Secularism is the principle of separation of the state from religious institutions.
However, should other ideologies from the liberal left such as above that are not also be kept separate from the educational environment too.
State schools are again no longer impartial or neutral spaces for parents to entrust their children for education.
As a conservative Irish parent I am genuinely very concerned, for me a school promotion of any political ideology is a breach of trust. I believe in young people forming their own conclusions without pressure from group dynamics, especially when they are supported by a school authority.
I feel this type of action crosses a crucial line between support and promotion, educator and recruiter gets blurred.
Is it too much to ask for our schools to be truly safe spaces for our children!
