ONE of the nation’s favourite foodies, Rachel Allen, was in town on Friday afternoon for the official opening of the new John Griffin butchers in the Horan centre.
The top TV Chef, has been to Tralee and the surrounding area many times and had only good things to say.
“It’s always lovely to have an excuse to come back here,” said Rachel Allen.
“This area produces wonderful beef and lamb, I don’t think I could live without meat. This is such a beautiful part of the world for great produce,” said Rachel.

The opening of the new butchers is significant in that represents the first time in number of years that all of the units at the front of the Horan Centre are now occupied by businesses.
John Griffin Butchers is already a Listowel business and this is their first leap into the Tralee meat market.
“I couldn’t believe a unit in such a good spot was vacant so we jumped at the opportunity,” said John Griffin of John Griffin Butchers.
It’s a sign of the upturn in the economy that these places are getting filled,” said John.
While at the opening, Rachel, was more than happy to sign copies of her cook books and chat with members of the public who came out to see her.
