THE rains came earlier than expected and spoiled the Tralee 800 celebrations somewhat, but there was still big crowds in the Town Park on Saturday.
The big match screening in the Square was the big casualty of the afternoon, with only about 5o people braving the spitting rain to stand out in the open, while others stood under the canopy in An Chearnóg to watch Ireland slump to defeat. A canopy – or some sort of cover – for events such as this, really is a must in the future.

Over in the Park there was loads to do with the flower show, food and craft village and great entertainment for children as the umbrellas were hoisted.
The Living History Village was also visited by many and there was battle re-enactments from Déise Medieval which proved very popular. The chainmail-clad combatants staged three re-enactments of the battle between the Fitzgeralds and the Moore McCarthy clans, which continues on Sunday at 2pm and 4pm.
This was preceded by an enjoyable show from Kingdom Falconry. There was loads to see and do and hopefully there’ll be some respite from the rain today so people can enjoy it without the umbrellas. Scroll down for a short video of a medieval battle in the park and photos below…
