KILLARNEY was the big winner at Dawn Milk Ladies Day at the scenic racecourse this afternoon and two locals scooped the big prizes in the Best Dressed Lady and Gent competition.

The weather was mostly kind, the course was packed and the style amazing as judges Thalia Heffernan and Aidan O’Mahony had their work cut out for them.

After whittling down the men and women to 10 finalists each, the winners were announced in the parade ring.

Siobhan McCarthy from Killarney won the trip for two to Paris plus a specially commissioned Dawn crystal vase and decanter and was delighted when her  name was called out.

The 31 year old who works at the HSE told TraleeToday.ie that she was styled by the woman who won the Best Dressed Lady competition last year.

“I got my dress at Asos [online fashion store] and was styled by my friend Agne Kremenskiene. The hat was made by Agne, the shoes came from Debenhams and the bag is vintage,” she said.

“I was a bit shocked but absolutely thrilled. It’s my first time winning anything like this so I was a bit overwhelmed, but delighted.”

Siobhan said she was looking forward to the trip to Paris but hadn’t decided who was going with her yet.

Meanwhile, Gavin O’Leary from Kilcummin was named Best Dressed Man and won a trip for two to Milan, plus a specially commissioned Dawn crystal vase and decanter.

The 25 year old who works at Gallivan, Moloney, Hooper, Dolan Insurances in Killarney had an outfit from many different shops.

“My suit is tailor made while I was on holiday in Thailand, the waistcoat is from Asos, the shirt and tie are from Topman, my shoes are from Aldo. It’s great, I only decided to enter last night. It’s very surprising but I’m delighted,” he said.

Gavin also hadn’t decided who to take to the Italian city but we’re sure there’ll be no shortage of takers. (we’ll have loads of photos of stylish ladies over the next two days on TraleeToday.ie)
