THE Tralee 100k Ultra Marathon is over for another year with the event going down as a great success for all who took part on Saturday.

Over 50 runners set off on the gruelling challenge in the early morning, all determined to finish what they had trained so long and hard for over the last few months.

With participants coming from all over the country and from the UK, runners from here in town were represented as members of the ‘Born To Run’ club were out in strength.

The first runner home on the day was Alex O’Shea from Cork who finished in the staggering time of 07:59:43 with Antrim woman Gillian Cordner storming in as the first female home in a time of 10:09:59.

The Brandon Hotel finish line was one of strong emotion over the course of the day with some runners ‘drunk on exhaustion’ as they stepped over the finish line and into the grateful arms of their waiting family and supporters.

Runners, organisers and supporters stayed on well into the night until the very end as they waited to cheer on the last few hardy competitors who were still slogging it out on the course.

The 2015 version of the event served up stories that will no doubt be told again and again around various dinner tables and parties for years to come, including a shock appearance from the fully suited and booted webslinger Brian ‘Spiderman’ Ó Sé himself and a dogged and determined finish from Tralee’s own Danny O’Shea.

Here’s to doing it all again next year.
