TRALEE is set for a splash of colour and an exhibition of some exceptional artistic work over the coming weeks as a series of newly created murals are displayed around the town.
It’s all part of the Tralee Town Centre Mural Project which aims to further enhance the appearance of the centre of the county town.
The students from Mercy Mounthawk, CBS The Green and Presentation Secondary have been working on the paintings for the past few months and the results are spectacular, showing the imagination and talent of the teenagers.
The project originates from the Denny Street Conservation Project and the enhancements of Denny Street and the Mall last year and is a collaboration between Kerry County Council and Tidy Tralee Together.
The Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Norma Foley, unveiled the murals at the Ashe Memorial Hall on Denny Street on Wednesday.
The mayor congratulated all the students on their creations, saying they would add greatly to the aesthetics of the local streetscape.
“This wonderful project originated during the Denny Street Conservation Project and from presentations made to local schools by Architectural Conservation Officer, Victoria McCarthy, about the architecture and heritage of Denny Street. It was a great collaborative effort involving students and their teachers and my council colleagues were pleased to provide funding towards this really worthy initiative” she said.
Approximately 20 murals will be on display in the Ashe Memorial Hall for a few days and will then be placed at the various locations around the town over the coming weeks.
A further seminar on the Denny Street Revitalisation and Rejuvenation Project for property owners, interested parties and members of the public will be held on June 8. Scroll down to see some of the paintings…
