AUDIENCES packed Siamsa Tíre on Wednesday night for the opening of the Light Opera Society of Tralee’s production of  ‘West Side Story’.

It’s one of the best-loved musicals ever made and audiences loved the performances by the young cast who have been rehearsing for months.

It’s directed by Grainne O’Carroll, choreographed by Katrina Galvin and musically directed by Anna Connolly and Aidan O’Carroll.

The show runs until Saturday night at 8pm nightly and limited tickets are available at €19 (€17 conc) from the box office on 066-7123055 and online by clicking here

The most critically acclaimed musical of all time, West Side Story was conceived and choreographed by Jerome Robbins with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

West Side Story has been an iconic production on the musical theatre landscape since it was first presented on stage 60 years ago — it actually premiered on the stage in 1957.

The Montagues and Capulets become the Jets and the Sharks, Romeo and Juliet become Tony and Maria with the story transplanted from Verona to Manhattan’s Upper West Side in the 1950s. Scroll down for photos…
