THERE was a great sense of a community coming together in the name of fun on Sunday, as St Pat’s GAA club hosted their annual family day.
Hundreds turned up in the autumn sunshine for an afternoon of music, puppet shows and games, with plenty food and refreshments laid on for everyone.
“We’ve been running it for the last four years,” said Club Chairman, James Costello. “It’s a day to reward the club members for putting in the long hours and also for the kids to get together at a social event to have a bit of fun.”
“We have the sumo wrestling, skills tests, three legged race, long puck and we play the final of the internal club league as well.”
The family day was due to take place last Sunday but was postponed due to the passing of club stalwart, Tony O’Donoghue.
“Tony was the lifeblood of the club. He was the guy holding the whole thing together,” said James. “We postponed it last week due to his death and we gave him a good send-off but it’s great to see so many of his family here. We had a walk earlier and a collection in aid of the Palliative Care Unit of the hospital in his memory.”
A great day and well done to all the volunteers who helped make the event so special.
