IT was that time of the year again.
There were many tears of joy and, inevitably, a few of disappointment too, as hundreds of students collected their leaving certificate results on Tuesday morning at Tralee schools.
While the results were available online from 10am, many decided to come into their schools to meet friends and find out how they got on.
Nearly 220 teenagers sat the exams in Mercy Mounthawk back in June and thankfully there were mostly smiley faces when we called.

“There’s a range of results, from those who received over 600 points to students who those who received distinctions in the LCA, so it’s great for them,” said Principal John O’Roarke.
“It’s the start of a new chapter for students and there are many different paths now. The one they end up taking, may not be the path they initially thought they would take,” he said.
CBS The Green Principal, Anne O’Callaghan, was equally happy with the results achieved by the 101 students who sat the exams there.
“We’re delighted, it’s a bit quiet here because the results are available online this morning, but there were excellent grades,” she said.
Excitement abounded too at Presentation Secondary School where a steady stream of students arrived. Deputy Principal Chrissie Kelly said the school was very proud of the young ladies, one of whom arrived at 8.15am to collect the results.
“We had over 80 sitting the exams and they were an amazing group. They really put the work in and we are delighted with the results,” she said.
A sizeable group of students (and a good few parents) were gathered outside Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí when we called. Príomhoide Ruairí Ó Cinnéide was impressed with the 44 students results.
“We are delighted with the results achieved by this years’ Leaving Certificate students at Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí and we congratulate them on their success. We are extremely proud of all our students and are very grateful for the support they received from their teachers and families,” he said.
“Notably 44% of the students achieved over 500 points, while one student, Cian Ó Cianáin, achieved the maximum 625 points and hopes to study Medicine in NUIG,” added the principal.
Coláiste Gleann Lí had 24 students sitting the exams and Deputy Principal Liam McGill said they could all be proud.
“They were all very happy and there was great excitement at the school this morning. It’s the culmination of years of hard work so we’re delighted for them,” he said.
Over at Brookfield College, Principal Elisha Dowling was handing out results to the students.

“We had 76 sitting the exams and we’re delighted with the results. We had 26% achieving over 500 points and 70% of them got over 400 points. For students who repeated, the average improvement was 89 points on their results from last year, which is significant,” said Elisha.
Congratulations and best of luck to all the students who received results and we hope they enjoyed the celebrations last night. Scroll down for photos…
