Cleaning up in the Square on Saturday.

THE weather was awful, but that didn’t stop thousands of people from throwing their weight behind the County Clean-Up effort.

Even the Taoiseach was on hand to lend his support to the campaign in Kerry when Leo Varadkar showed up at Aghadoe near Killarney yesterday afternoon.

He and Minister Brendan Griffin did their bit by picking up rubbish at the scenic spot. The community initiative was coordinated by KWD Recycling and Kerry County Council and involved a number of community groups.

Around 6,000 people register for the event which saw 22,000 bags and 1,500 hi-vis vests distributed by KWD Recycling. Many people took part in Tralee including the local Tidy Towns group, Team Bramble and Kerry Islamic Outreach. Scroll down for photos…
