A Kerry 1/2 in the Minor Boys Relay, with Mercy Mounthawk and Tralee CBS winning gold and silver.
THE action and the weather was hot in Tullamore on Saturday last for the conclusion of schools athletics competitions.
Many new records were set as Mervyn Shalamba of Mercy Mounthawk scorched home in the Minor Boys 100m and created a record time of 11.44.
In the Minor Boys Relay he powered home in the last leg in lane 8 to pip Tralee CBS in lane 5 at the finish, with both teams creating new records – Mercy Mounthawk 48.14 and Tralee CBS 48.22.
Mercy Mounthawk also won the Junior Boys Relay in 46.15.
Shona O’Brien of Pres. Miltown was impressive, finishing second in the Girls mile under 16. That race was won in record time of 5.03.57 by All Ireland Cross Country champion, Sarah Healy, Holy Cross Killiney.
Ciara Kennelly of Presentation Killarney has been jumping consistently all year and took the Junior Girls High Jump with 1.65m.
David Siegal and Sean Quilter of Tralee CBS were impressive in the Junior Boys Shot Putt, winning gold and silver medals, with throws of 13.56m and 13.13m respectively.
Jamie O’Brien of Mercy Mounthawk was 3rd in Minor Boys Hurdles in a time of 11.95.
Aoife Doyle of Intermediate School Killorglin won silver in the Senior Girls Discus with a throw of 36.46.
