THE boys from ‘Ballymac Galaxy’ were crowned Tralee Inter-Firm Soccer Tournament champions 2018, after another enjoyable day of matches last Saturday.
This year’s event saw 18 teams from all over town and beyond taking part including the gardaí, Kerry County Council, local companies and businesses, with all funds raised going to Kerry Cancer Support Group’s Kerry Cork Health Link Bus.
They played off their group games and there was also a shield competition. Continuum Commerce Solutions got the better of a team of ‘Naries’ in the Shield Final while ‘Ballymac Galaxy’ overcame ‘Na Gaeil Northsiders’ in the Cup Final played in rainy conditions on Saturday evening at the Low Field.

“We’re delighted with the tournament, it’s support like this that keeps us on the road,” said Breda Dyland of Kerry Cancer Support Group.
“We’re very happy, the competition ran off very smoothly and over €2,000 was raised for KCSG which is great,” said Pa Daly, one of the organisers. “There were some surprising results, with fancied teams being beaten in the semi-finals.”

Ballymac beat Na Gaeil 2-1 in the final and last year’s winning captain, Podge Moynihan of Kerry County Council presented the Cup to Larry Kelly, who said they were delighted to support such a worthy cause.
The organisers wished to thank John Mitchels GAA and Tralee Dynamos for the use of their grounds, refs John Hegarty and Michael Guerin who gave their time at no cost and to St Brendan’s Park FC who provided some equipment.
Many of the players enjoyed some aprés match fun in Benners Hotel later that night with awards given to the legendary Chips Clifford for Player of the Tournament and Joe Matthews of Continuum Commerce for Best Overseas Player. Scroll down for photos…
