PHOTOS: Tralee Lions Club Presents €62,000 To Charities And Community Groups

AFTER an enforced absence of two years due to the Covid Pandemic, Tralee Lions Club, this week distributed funds from its recent golf classic held at Tralee Golf Club in April 2022.

Lions Club President, Joan O’Regan, extended her gratitude to all who contributed to the club’s recent successful golf classic which raised a record breaking €62k, all of which was distributed to representatives of 20 local charities and community groups.

The charities are Fenit Life Boat, Kerry Hospice Foundation, Baile Mhuire, Ballyheigue Inshore Rescue Service, Pieta House, Kerry Friends of Motor Neuron Disease, Tralee & West Kerry Branch of MS Ireland, Tralee Select Vestry, Recovery Haven, Kingdom Care, Tralee Soup Kitchen, Inspired, Adapt Kerry, Ballyheigue Men’s Shed, Brighter Communities Worldwide, Tralee International Resource Centre, Tralee Community Garden, The Breakfast Club, Tír Ná Nóg,  Meals on Wheels and finally Kerry Head Ballyheigue Resource Centre.  Assistance was also provided to the local Ukraine support group.

Funds raised from the event also assisted with the annual Tralee community bus outing which is co-ordinated each year between the Lions Club and the local Community Garda.

The club continues to support other local projects to include Hawley Park School, Meals on Wheels and Tidy Towns.

Speaking in The Meadowlands Hotel, President Joan O’Regan welcomed the representatives from the Charities and complimented them for their ongoing commitment and dedication to their own individual projects.

She paid special tribute to the Lions many loyal supporters and sponsors who make the annual trip to Barrow to assist in the club’s fundraising efforts.

She highlighted the commitment of Lion members Teddy Reynolds and Pat Crean to the Golf Classic and thanked them for their organisational skills with the event.

A great day in Barrow was had by all with wonderful weather. She also took the opportunity to thank Tralee Golf Club for its support with the event which extends back to 1974 in Mounthawk.

On behalf of the charities, Con O’Connor of Pieta House thanked Tralee Lions Club for their generous donations to all the charities, not just today but over many years.

He praised their fundraising abilities, their work within the community and assured all those present that “the donations will make a difference to so many people’s, lives, not just today, but into the future”.

As she closed proceedings, President Joan congratulated this year’s Golf Classic winning team, John Murphy, Eoin Kelliher, Ger Power and Declan Crowley.
