TRALEE Triathlon Club have got the New Year off to a good start with their first event of 2017 taking place last Sunday at Tralee Sports Complex.
A club aquathon put the winter training to the test with a pool swim and run. For this event the bikes were left at home.
Members undertook various pool distances, designed to suit all abilities, so whether you could swim 10 laps or 30 laps, everyone had the opportunity to participate in the indoors event.
Triathletes chose from a 250m, 500m and 750m swim and this was followed by either a 2.5k or 4.6k run around Oakpark.
A junior tri club event, for the club’s junior triathletes, also took place on the day and almost 40 children of all ages took part in this event.
Children over 12 had an option of a 250m, 300m or 450m swim and a 2.5, 3 or 3.5k while the younger children played games in the pool followed by a short run of 1.5k, 2k or 2.5k.
The junior tri club is a new addition to Tralee Triathlon club and was formed last year to encourage children to get involved in triathlons. The junior club is only open to children or grandchildren of club members.
In total almost 90 club members were involved including volunteers and junior and senior triathletes.
Organiser, Paula Casey, said that the club event was a fun day for all members.
“It is our first event of 2017 and we got the year off to a great start. The club is all about having fun and getting fit and everyone enjoyed the event.”
Tralee Triathlon club now has over 200 members and is one of the country’s fastest growing clubs.
