A SIGN in tribute to the ‘Street of Champions’ was unveiled on Saturday afternoon at Urban Terrace on Rock Street.
The Austin Stacks club faithful gathered at 12 noon to see the the sign on the gable of No.20 Urban Terrace and there’s no better place to have it too since, in a span of 18 years, six Stacks players from this terrace of 20 houses collected 21 All Ireland senior medals.
Chairman of Austin Stacks GAA Club, Liam Lynch explained the idea behind the sign.

“Historically, this is where Austin Stacks started out. The club has spread far and wide throughout the town but this is the heartland. We thought it was fitting in our centenary year to celebrate that and Mairead Fernane has done a huge amount of work to make this happen. It’s as much a tribute to what has gone before us with all the medals winners who came out of here in the past 100 years,” said Liam.
He also thanked Kerry County Council, EF Signs and especially the Tansley family who live at No.20 for letting them put up the sign.

The Urban Terrace All Ireland Medal Winners in that period of 18 years are:
• Micko Doyle (5 medals – 1929/30/31/32/37 no. 5 Urban Terrace
• John Joe Landers (5 medals – 1929/30/31/32/37) no. 7 Urban Terrace
• Tim Landers (5 medals – 1931/32/37/39/41) no. 7 Urban Terrace
• Jimmy Gorman (3 medals – 1939/40/41) no. 10 Urban Terrace
• Billy Landers (2 medals – 1924/1932) no. 7 Urban Terrace.
• Gal Slattery (1 medal – 1926) no. 2 Urban Terrace.
