IT was a Saturday, but two Tralee schools were still very busy as they hosted open days to showcase the many great facilities they can provide to youngsters starting their second-level education next year.
Coláiste Gleann Lí saw many families attending and they were met with eager students and teachers extolling what makes the school so progressive.
There were science experiments, fun maths exercises, a showcase of the students’ baking prowess and so much more.
“We’ve had a fantastic turnout,” said school PRO, Maryanne Lowney. “The figures are continuing to grow at our open days and there’s an increase on last year which was our most successful yet. There’s also an increase in pupils from fifth class coming to see the school. Our extension is expected to begin in the next month so we will have increased capacity in the future.”

Meanwhile, there was a huge turnout at Mercy Mounthawk for their open day. The teachers brought families on tours of the school where they were also treated to experiments and demonstrations as well as seeing the extensive facilities the school has to offer.
Vice-Principal, Pat Fleming, was delighted with the how the day went.
“We’ve had a hugely successful open day, certainly the biggest I can remember in my time here. People have enjoyed the tours with our teachers, to see the facilities we have here. This is a really important day for us to showcase the school and what we can offer. We’re very proud our school and we are showing the people of Tralee and beyond what a gem we have here.” Scroll down for photos…
