OVER 700 people attended the third annual Live Life Film Awards, held in the Brandon Hotel on Thursday, February 17.

The theme for the event was ‘Make Every Second Count’ and Tralee entrants were among the prizewinners in the three categories.

The film competition is held in memory of Donal Walsh and this year encouraged entrants to show how they live life to the full.

RTE’s Sinead Kennedy was MC for the event, with special guests footballer Aidan O’Mahony, campaigner Nikki Bradley, filmmaker Gerard Barrett, Ian O’Reilly and David Rawle from the TV series ‘Moone Boy’.

The entertainment went down with a treat, with live music by Riptide Movement, and performances by rappers from University Limerick, Flog the Dog, and Hip Hop dancing by Cassie Leen’s dancers.

An owl, tarantula, snakes and a rabbit also took up residence in the hotel for the event, allowing the children an opportunity to hold the animals.

Mary Lucey, organiser of the event, said; “It was a resounding success. We had entrants and attendees from almost every county in ireland. And our winners were from all over the country.”

A panel of 12 judges decided the winners on the day. Ian Harrington, from Killarney, won first place in the Adult  Category, with second place going to Darragh Clarke and John Holmes, Tralee (see video below). Noel McElligott from Listowel came third in this category.

Nathan Hackett won first place in the Secondary School Category. Janet Polli and Aoife King, from Mercy Mounthawk, Tralee (see video below), came in second place and Alana Brent from Listowel came third.

Sionnach Langan, from Cork, won first place in the Primary Category, with Caherline National School, Limerick, coming second, and in third place were Dramarama, a group from Ballygarvan, Cork. Scroll down for photos, plus the the Tralee prize-winners clips…
