As part of Literacy Week 2017, Transition Year Students of Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School took part in Character Costume Day on Friday.
The students dressed as their favorite fictional characters from literature, and produced some brilliant efforts! Harry Potter and Hagrid, Bananas in Pyjamas, Thomas the Tank Engine and even ‘Where’s Wally?’ showed up for the day.
The extensive programme of events for the week celebrated all things literary, with a poetry competition kicking off the week on Monday. On Tuesday an Inside the Actor style event took place, as well as spelling bee to test the students knowledge.
Wednesday saw the teachers take part in a ‘staff book club’ video Q&A (see below), where they answered questions on the types of books they like to read and would recommend to their students.
The poetry awards took place on Thursday and the school finished off Literacy Week 2017 with the Character Costume Day, followed by the Debate final. Scroll down for photos and a video of the teachers describing their reading habits…
