Tralee Darkness into LightTRALEE will be one of the Kerry towns to host the ‘Darkness Into Light’ event this coming May.

The event, in aid of Pieta House, has captured the hearts of people all over the country as a fundraiser and a powerful way of raising awareness of mental health issues.

It has been a huge success over the past number of years with thousands taking part.

It will take place at 4.15am on May 7 with more details to be ironed out in the coming weeks.

A Facebook page on the event, ‘Darkness Into Light Tralee’, has been set up which you can like by clicking here. A post on the page earlier read:

“We are delighted to announce OFFICIALLY that Pieta House’s Darkness Into Light is coming to Tralee on the 7th of may at 4.15 am. With the new Pieta House in Tralee, we are really looking forward to making this first year event in Tralee a real special one for everyone. More details to follow soon keep an eye on the page and share the page with friends thanks.”

The man behind the Tralee event is Colin Aherne, who co-organised the successful Walk 4 Life event last April raising awareness of mental health and suicide awareness/prevention.

That event – which will be held in September this year – raised nearly €6,000 for organisations throughout Kerry that help to promote positive mental health and the message of suicide awareness and prevention.

“I went to pieta house last year about bringing it to Tralee, but was too late,” said Colin. “When I had the ‘Walk For Life’, Pieta House was a chosen charity. Last year it was too late to have the event in Tralee, so this year I was contacted to do the event and I gladly said yes.”

“It’s means a lot to me to get this event to Tralee as it creates great awareness of the great service that Pieta House provides and since there is a new Pieta House in town, it gives the Tralee event more meaning,” he said.
