The new walkway from Spa to Cockleshell would link with the existing one to the lock gates at Lohercannon.

PLANS for a new walkway/cycleway from Cockleshell Road to the Spa will go to public consultation from next Thursday, October 14.

The new walkway would link with the current tarmacademed route from Cockleshell, all the way down to the Marina, creating a scenic pedestrian and cycle friendly facility along the coast from the town out to Spa.

Cllr Mikey Sheehy received the news this morning and said it’s a wonderful boost for the community and for tourism in the greater Tralee area.

He also said he had received confirmation earlier this year that a new walkway/cycleway will be developed in the future from the Wetlands near the old railway line out to Blennerville.

Cllr Sheehy said that he received an update on progress for the Tralee-Fenit Greenway. Around 90% of site clearance and 85% of surface layer dressing has been completed with 15% of the top surface laid. The Greenway is set to open in the first quarter of 2022.

Cllr Sheehy said there is huge tourism potential for these cycleway/walkway loops around Tralee and a marketing campaign should be developed to promote the attractions.
